Since I have made two blog posts about the unit Got Government, I thought I would keep with it and try to locate a relevant infographic. I finally found one I will use for sure and another I might. It was harder than I thought to locate one that was appropriate and available.

It is not everything I want it to be. I want some graphs and more information on it like the other types of governments that we will be studying but it is what I could locate and make work. But maybe simpler is better.

All I do know for sure is the better the visuals the better the understanding. As I am a visual learner, simply put, visuals help me understand and remember. Now that I am getting better informed about how to create them myself, I am excited to create some for this unit.

This type of infographic is showing Monarchies in red vs. all other types of governments in blue. I like this one because the students see Saudi and surrounding area. They are able to visualize the world clearly and a type of government that run some of its countries.

They also see that there are fewer countries that have an Absolute, or Constitutional Monarchy as a type of government. By using this I hope to make the discussion  about Monarchies and country participation more engaging and understandable.

Visuals are such a powerful tool, for anybody, especially when talking about things that are new and/or more abstract. It allows you to take information and show a lot in a little bit of time.

Electoral democracies

I can also use this map to show Democracies of the world and then have students make the connection that some Democracies can also be Constitutional Monarchies. They can also see how some of the countries remain blank, and are neither a Monarchy or Democracy and this can lead them into researching and extension projects.

So it’s a good beginning

P.S.

I also found this recycling infographic from the magazine Good , that I think will enhance the Trash to Treasure project and the unit Everything Comes From Something in Social Studies…turns out there are more visuals out there than I realized:)
